“As we approached the 39th week of pregnancy, we were prepared to meet the arrival of our baby boy. I mean this was our second child and they tend to come sooner, right? His sister was induced after 40 weeks, but we still thought I might go early. We had Grandma in from Cincinnati ready to help once baby arrived. Everything was cleaned, folded & ready to go.

Well, 39 weeks came & went. Forty came & went too. Should we induce again? They thought he would be pretty big- a 9 pounder! Could I deliver a 9+ pound baby? Another induction was scheduled. The morning of the induction, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I wanted this baby to come when he was ready, not to be “evicted”.

After much consideration, we cancelled the induction and decided to give him a few more days. The whole family was on baby watch. Every day past forty weeks feels like an eternity. You want your baby here to hold. You are uncomfortable and want your body back. Mostly you just want them here safe & sound.

Well, Luke arrived exactly one week past his due date, all on his own – all 9lbs 6 oz of him!  It was a quick labor and very speedy delivery. I am here to testify- fat squishes and he had no problem making his way out into the world. We are glad that we let nature take it’s course and had him on our terms. He is a pretty mellow and easy baby. Our biggest challenge is making our 2 year old feel like an important part of things. We are so blessed to have such a sweet addition to our family.  Every days is an adventure as a family of four!”

“My husband, a commercial pilot, was in Houston for upgrade training for much of the five weeks before our daughter’s due date. Although he had given the little lady strict orders to stay put until he returned, we were very worried he might miss her birth. A good friend had accompanied me to my birthing classes and was prepared to help support me during the delivery, but I just really wanted my husband by my side and I knew he would be devastated too if he wasn’t there for our daughter’s birth.

As if she were waiting for the perfect moment, the night he came home from his final day of training, my water broke not five hours later. A little more than five hours after that, Camilla Jade Pels was born. She arrived at 8:46am on July 12, 2012 at 8lb, 12 oz and 21 inches long, following a quick but intense natural birth at the Alternative Birthing Center. When the midwives placed her in my arms, I was in awe of what an amazing and beautiful little person we had created.

After nine long months of anxiously imagining her, I was finally looking at her and I’ve hardly been able to tear my eyes away from her since. In just six days, she has become the absolute love of our lives. And what an upgrade for my husband — Captain and Daddy all in one day!”

“We were all so excited to welcome our son to our family, but our daughter Rachel was practically bursting with anticipation to meet her baby brother once we got to the month of June and started to tell her it would be soon instead of a few months away! Luckily he made his appearance a few days before his due date after a long labor but easy delivery. Ryan Matthew arrived on June 28th at 12:56pm weighing 7lbs, 6oz and measuring 21 inches. We are all absolutely in love with him and cannot believe how fortunate we are to have these great kids and each other!”
